MOULTRIE, Ga. — Moultrie police are seeking a man whose girlfriend showed up at the emergency room on Tuesday morning with injuries allegedly sustained during an assault by her boyfriend the previous night.

The woman reported being assaulted and raped by the man in her residence in the 500 block of First Street Southeast. Following the assault the 41-year-old woman was unable to leave for some time, police said.

“There was some kind of altercation,” Moultrie Police Department Lt. Raul Leal said. “It was verbal at first, and it became physical. At one point there was a weapon involved.”

The woman’s injuries, including those from the “knife or cutting instrument” used were not life-threatening, Leal said.

“She was assaulted pretty bad,” he said. “She had bruising; she was cut.”

The man and woman were involved in a romantic relationship, Leal said, but he was not sure whether the man lived there with her. As of Wednesday afternoon police had not located the suspect, who was not at that location when officers arrived.

“She wasn’t able to report it when it happened,” Leal said. “The call came in at the hospital at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. Somehow she made it away from that situation and got to the hospital.”
