MOULTRIE, Ga. — Local and state law enforcement officers made numerous traffic arrests, some in concentrated patrols in the county by the agencies.

Among those arrested were two men on Mopeds and a man accused of driving a golf cart on city streets while drunk early Saturday morning.

At 1 a.m. Saturday, an officer in the 200 block of Third Avenue Northwest saw a man riding a golf cart. A short time later the man veered off the road and struck a curb.

When the officer spoke with the driver, identified as Sammie Demetrius Hill, Hill claimed that he was pushing it to a friends’ residence because the battery was discharged.

As the officer spoke with Hill, police said, he smelled the odor of beer on him. Hill told police he had consumed two beers about an hour prior to that time. He also handed over an identification card, explaining that his license is suspended.

A portable breath test indicated that Hill was over the legal limit for alcohol, as did a second test using equipment at Colquitt County Jail.

Hill, 55, 1431 Sumner Road, was charged with driving while license withdrawn, driving under the influence and failure to drive within single lane.
