MOULTRIE, Ga. — A Sunday morning drive ended abruptly for a Colquitt County man and woman when a police officer got behind the Honda Accord she was driving and discovered that it was a stolen pickup truck.

Actually, the tag on the back of the Accord was from a Chevrolet Silverado that had been reported stolen, police said. The tag decal that had been placed on the tag also was reported stolen, but from a different car.

When police stopped the Accord at about noon Sunday, Gary Lamount Turner told the officer that he owns that car. He offered to take responsibility and asked police not to arrest the driver, Shirley Ann Trimble.

Police took Trimble into custody after learning that she did not have a valid driver’s license, and then arrested Turner.

Both denied knowing how the license plate and decal came to be on the Honda. The last tag purchased for the Honda expired in 2011 and there was no insurance on the car, police said.

Trimble, 47, 1957 Sylvester Hwy. Lot 41, was charged with two counts theft by receiving stolen property, expired vehicle or tag, two counts affixing license plate with intent to conceal, driving while license withdrawn and no insurance.

Police charged Turner, 46, 115 Third St. N.W., with two counts theft by receiving stolen property.
