CAIRO — Grady County took its mark for the proposed aquatic center project residents voted on back in 2007.
The conceptual plan for the proposed aquatic center project, drawn up by Cox Pools, was approved by the Grady County Board of Commissioners on Friday.
Commissioner Keith Moye, also on the committee for the aquatic center project, motioned to approve the plan, with the additions of ensuring the T-shaped, eight-lane swimming pool meets USA Swimming standards and adding steps for the pool on the conceptual plan.
“This will not just be a pool,” Commissioner T.D David, who seconded the motion, said of the project.
The conceptual plan, prior to added revisions, includes a 1,300 square foot splash pad, 3,600 square foot bathhouse, and fenced-in play area.
Approval of the conceptual plan also includes the architectural, engineering and consultant fees for Cox Pools to provide construction documents, netting a total of $78,750.
Grady County Administrator Carlos Tobar told the Times-Enterprise Monday the county anticipates signing the agreement with Cox Pools this week and also expects the revision to the conceptual plan this week.
Scope of work from Cox Pools includes:
• performing a topographic survey of the project area
• prepare all necessary drawings, which includes pool and splash pad design, building design, among others
• obtain all required permits, including land disturbing activity and swimming pool construction permits
• construction inspections such as three architect inspections, two MEP engineer inspections and three civil engineer/pool designer inspections
• attend meeting with Grady County personnel for finalizing conceptual plan and address questions or issues associated with project
• answering subcontractor questions and review submittals
The aquatic center project was on Grady County’s 2007 ballot of special purpose local options sales tax (SPLOST) projects.
