MOULTRIE, Ga. — The Southern Regional Technical College Foundation recently received a substantial donation from the Colquitt Regional Medical Foundation.

Colquitt Regional has long been a leader in healthcare in southwest Georgia and continues to iterate that dedication by providing funds that will directly contribute to producing skilled healthcare workers for the area, according to a press release from the college. In May, representatives from Colquitt Regional Medical Center and the Colquitt Regional Foundation presented SRTC President Craig Wentworth and Vice President of Institutional Advancement Amy Maison with a donation of $100,000 to the college’s foundation.

 “The Colquitt Regional Medical Foundation is proud to partner with SRTC in making healthcare education more accessible,” said Colquitt Regional CEO Jim Matney.  “Ensuring a stable and qualified workforce is a priority as we prepare for the future healthcare needs of the region. Placing additional nursing faculty in Colquitt County will make it more convenient for our existing employees to further their education while still working at Colquitt Regional. We collaborate with SRTC on a number of programs and their faculty provide excellent training of healthcare workers.”

The foundation will use these funds to support a full-time Associate of Science in Nursing faculty position in Colquitt County, the college said. Colquitt Regional and SRTC together have developed a strong partnership for excellence in Health Sciences Education for the communities of southwest Georgia. From program development, equipment purchases, scholarship opportunities, clinical support and beyond, Colquitt Regional has assisted SRTC with answering the call to provide the education and training necessary for the skilled healthcare workforce that is so desperately needed, the college said.

“As our college’s enrollment grows, the financial support of our communities is crucial to our success as a college,” Wentworth said. “As a community leader and partner in health sciences education, the participation of Colquitt Regional and the Colquitt Regional Medical Foundation in fundraising efforts is critical. Without their strong financial support, the college would not be able to provide the breadth of education, training, scholarships, and services that we presently provide and are planning to expand. We sincerely thank Colquitt Regional Medical Center and the Colquitt Regional Foundation, along with the other ardent community partners that we are fortunate to have.”

As noted, a portion of the donated funds will be used for scholarships specific to recruitment of students on the Moultrie Campus who are seeking entry into the ASN program. They will also provide financial support to students who need assistance with tuition, books, and other fees. By offering more scholarships for students, the foundation and SRTC hope to improve the job skills, technical training, and educational level of the citizens of their community.
