MOULTRIE – On Wednesday afternoon, during Day No. 3 of the 2017 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft, the Colorado Rockies selected former Colquitt County High Packer Aubrey McCarty.
McCarty was the 776th player picked overall, this coming in the 26th round. In 2013, McCarty was a 35th-round pick of the San Francisco Giants.
But McCarty went on instead to play at Vanderbilt University, and as a redshirt freshman in 2015 he was in the College World Series championship round.
At Florida A&M in 2017, hit eight home runs and drove in 51 runs while also going 7-4 as a pitcher.
