Towing company workers charged with theft from car

MOULTRIE, Ga. — Two towing company employees face theft charges after two cell phones from a car brought in to the business went missing. When questioned by police on Sunday, they turned over the iPhones that were in a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser brought in to the North Main Street business, according to Moultrie Police Department reports. When police went there, James Edward Howell told officers that he had spoken with Christopher Bennett, the owner of a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser, and informed him that no phones were listed during an inventory of the car’s contents. Bennett, 28, of Moultrie, earlier had told police that he had traced one of the phones to the business. When police informed Howell that there was evidence that the phones were at that location, he went to a room inside a mobile home and retrieved a red and white iPhone from a black travel bag, reports said.  When another employee, Robert Tyler Turner, arrived and was asked about the location of the other phone, police said, he pulled a gold and white iPhone out of his pocket. Howell, 31, 1320 N. Main St., and Turner, 22, 114 Brandi Drive, were each charged Sunday with theft by taking.
