THOMASVILLE — A Hansell Chastain Road resident who called authorities at midnight Monday said she had just seen a man climb a tree in her back yard.

“She first observed someone walking around in her back yard, then saw the person climbing into a tree,” said Louis Schofill, Thomas County/Thomasville Narcotics/Vice Division commander.

Thomas County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the residence and saw a man climbing out of a cedar tree in the woman’s back yard.

The man was identified as Travis Lee Houman, 20, 191 Ledford Road, Lot 6, Cairo.

“He (Houman) thought he saw a cat climb the tree, so he climbed the tree to look at the cat,” Schofill said.

When asked if he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, Houman responded that he was not.

“His pupils were dilated, he was sweating and not making much sense when he talked,” Schofill said.

A search of Houman’s vehicle produced two hypodermic syringes containing a clear liquid. The suspect told officers he used the syringes to inject methamphetamine, the commander said.

Houman is charged with criminal trespass, suspended driver’s license and possession of a drug-related object.

“He admitted he had used methamphetamine the day before,” a narcotics agent said.
