Vikettes produce another strong showing in Atlanta

The Lowndes softball team once again went up to Atlanta and not only held its own, but made a clear statement: that every metro-Atlanta team wants to be in Columbus in late October, but none of them want to come down to Lowndes to get there.

The Vikettes played four state powerhouse teams this weekend, going 3-1.

Lowndes 4

Lassiter   3

Sophie Sumner had three RBIs and a home run in the Vikettes’ 4-3 victory against Lassiter on Friday.

Sumner batted 1 for 2 and Rylin Hedgecock went 2 for 4 with a double.

Rachel Wolverton pitched five innings, allowing three runs on five hits with three strikeouts and seven walks.

Lowndes 3

Locust Grove 0

Hedgecock threw a no-hitter and was one walk away from tossing a perfect game in Lowndes’ 3-0 win against Locust Grove on Friday. 

She delivered 11 strikeouts in six innings of work.

Wolverton batted 1 for 3 with two RBIs and a home run. Lexie Metts was 1 for 2 with an RBI for the Vikettes.

Allatoona     2

Lowndes     1

Wolverton struck out 12 batters in 6 1-3 innings in the circle in Lowndes’ 2-1 loss against Allatoona on Saturday.

She surrendered six hits for two runs and a walk in the loss, while batting 2 for 4.

Sumner went 2 for 4 and Kayden Dickey was 2 for 3.

Lowndes 7

Etowah 6

Jacie Johns had a pair of RBIs and a double, and Tori Hedgecock added two more RBIs as the Vikettes edged Etowah 7-6 in their weekend finale Saturday.

Rylin Hedgecock hit 2 for 4 with an RBI and a triple, and Dickey went 3 for 3.

Rylin Hedgecock tossed six innings, allowing six runs on nine hits with nine strikeouts and four walks.
