VALDOSTA — The music of Joe Smothers, Randall Bramblett and Eliot Bronson will fill the Dosta Playhouse Aug. 19 as the artists kick off the state’s Second Annual ExploreGeorgia.org Songwriter Series.

The six-city event will take place August through November throughout the Peach State, with different musicians playing at each stop.

The artists will take the stage at the same time and take turns not only playing their songs but also sharing the stories behind them.

“These intimate performances give audiences an opportunity to experience homegrown artists sharing the stage, playing off one another and spotlighting their songs and the stories behind them,” said Kevin Langston with the Georgia Department of Economic Development, the agency behind the event.

Lisa Love, who handles music marketing for GDED, said the trio of songwriters at the Valdosta stop showcases “a little bit of everything” when it comes to genre.

“We started with Joe Smothers because you have an extraordinary singer-songwriter right there in your own city, and then we paired Joe with two artists that we thought would make for a great combination,” she said.

“Americana, roots, rock, folk, blues. You have three very versatile artists who draw from multiple influences. There’s great opportunity there for collaboration.”

Valdosta Main Street Director Ellen Hill said the city is excited to be a part of the series this year, pointing out that Downtown Valdosta is a great venue for the event.

“We were lucky enough to be chosen, (and) we’re just happy to be a part of it.”

Dosta Playhouse is located at 122 N. Ashley St. The other cities in the series are Athens, Augusta, Savannah, LaGrange and Rome.
