TIFTON — The Tift County Lady Devils split a Wednesday doubleheader with Early County, earning their fourth win in 2017.
Abi Sumner pitched a complete game in Tift’s 7-3 opening win over Early.
Hannah Hartsfield’s third inning home run gave the Lady Devils a 1-0 lead. Ragen Lasseter helped propel them to a 3-1 advantage but Early came back to tie, 3-3.
Head coach Kyle Kirk said Joslyn Reyes came through with a single. Alaina Stephens and Lasseter also reached before Morgan Ray delivered a three-run triple.
“We’re getting better,” said Kirk.
Stephens has been one of his team’s best hitters in the past few games, he said.
“Our biggest surprise,” said Kirk.
Megan Taylor started the second game against Early.
The Lady Devils have won four of their last six games. A road trip to Madison last week saw them thrash Putnam County, 16-0. Tift also played Morgan County on the trip.
“It was fun,” said Kirk. “Cool weather, no gnats.”
He said the two contests “had a big game feel.”
Tift has also beaten Crisp County twice, 9-8 and 8-4.
The Lady Devils will play at Lee County Monday at 6 p.m. They played close games with Lee over the summer. Tift’s next home game will be Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. against Thomas County Central.
The week then gets even busier with a make-up game against Coffee at home Wednesday before region starts Friday with a home doubleheader against Lowndes.
