Rants and Raves

So tired of it

“I’m so tired of hearing about the homecoming court at Colquitt County High School. Every year it’s the same song, 20th verse. One would think that this is a pivotal event in kids’ lives. Believe me, it’s not. I would be in favor of doing away with the whole thing before we have the equivalent of a congressional hearing on it.

Applause

“Applause to our emergency crews who worked so diligently during our Irma escapade. Hats off to all of you. You are not taken for granted.

Remembering

Most Popular

“I’m an elderly person. When the lights went off and I had to get out my oil lamps, it took me back to my childhood. I reminisced in the soft glow of those old lamps. I feel fortunate to have such memories. But as they say, the past is a good place to visit, but I don’t want to live there. Knowing our utility crews would have the power back on in a reasonable time was a great comfort.

Fortunate

“We are very fortunate here in South Georgia to have limited damage from Irma. So let’s not forget to remember and help those much less fortunate people in  and around Houston.

Smoke free?

“In response: The ranter noted that someone is dipping and spitting in a ‘smoke free’ public building. Perhaps he hasn’t seen that commercial on television where the young man has much of his jawbone removed from his use of  smokeless tobacco. And that’s not an exaggeration. In addition to the dangers of mouth cancer, there’s also the potential for esophageal cancer, even more deadly.

Good point

“In reference to Mr. Walden’s Sunday column ‘Time to stop and smell the roses:’ He makes a good point about the cost of new medical procedures. In this whole thing about health care overall, it seems the cost of delivery of care for drugs and related procedures are not directly addressed. It’s that 500-pound gorilla in the room.

That game

“No one says that ‘football’ is everything. It’s just one of the pleasures that we fans and players enjoy. Games were played all over the state Friday night and you single out the Roswell game as ‘cruel’ because of the approaching hurricane. No one’s safety was jeopardized. It was just another great Friday night in South Georgia. If there had been any danger factors, other than what would be there on any Friday night, I’m sure other plans would have been made.
