MOULTRIE, Ga. — A Moultrie man was charged with assault in an early Friday morning attack of another man who was beaten severely with various objects including a rock and flooring tiles.

Gregory Neal Brown, 60, was assaulted in his room at the Moultrie Inn, 1708 First Ave. S.E., where he works, police said. Three officers were dispatched to the motel at about 3:45 a.m. Friday.

“He was beaten about the head and face area to the point he needed staples” for his injuries, Moultrie Police Department Sgt. Justin Lindsay said.

The objects used in the vicious beating included a “large rock” and individual tiles, some of which were broken during the incident.

The suspect, Glenn Austin Taylor, and Brown know each other, Lindsay said, but so far the investigation has not revealed a reason for the attack.

“We don’t know what the motive was of his attacking this man,” Lindsay said. “It seemed to be a one-sided altercation.”

Brown was expected to recover and apparently had no permanent injuries, Lindsay said.

Taylor, 52, was charged with aggravated assault.

In a separate incident, police arrested Demetri Markece Suggs in connection with a domestic dispute during which a 1-year-old boy was injured in the head.

Suggs reportedly was arguing with Miranda Wilson at his 603 First St. S.W. residence at about 9:10 p.m.

Wilson was sitting in a car at the time and Suggs was standing outside holding their toddler, Lindsay said.

At some point the child was struck against the door frame which “split his head open during the domestic dispute with him and the child’s mother,” the investigator said.

Suggs, 24, was charged with cruelty to children, simple assault and reckless conduct.
