Voter registration ends Oct.10, early voting begins Oct. 16

THOMASVILLE — The deadline for voter registration in Thomas County is inching closer. 

The deadline to register to vote in the November general election is Tuesday, Oct. 10. Registration is at the Thomas County Judicial Center, in the Office of Registration and Elections, 325 N Madison St. Registration is from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. 

“Or they can register online,” said Frank Scoggins, elections supervisor. 

Online registration is available at www.sos.ga.gov, which ends at midnight, Oct. 10. 

Early voting for the Nov. 7 election begins Oct. 16 and ends Nov. 3, 5 p.m.

“All precincts can early vote at the courthouse,” Scoggins said. 

Elections to be conducted in November are for city council races in Thomasville and Thomas County’s smaller municipalities, along with a special purpose local option sales tax referendum. 

According to Scoggins, Thomas County has around 30,000 registered voters. Eighty-eight percent of the county’s registered voters are active, Scoggins noted. To activate voter status, one has to vote, the elections supervisor added. 

The bulk of new voter registrations comes from the Department of Driver Services, Scoggins noted.

To register to vote in Thomas County: 

• Must be a U.S. citizen. 

• Reside in Georgia. 

• Reside in the county. 

• Identification required, along with proof of residence, such as a bank statement.
