CHATSWORTH, Ga. — A Murray County man is in jail after breaking down a door and beating another man with a wrench, according to an incident report from early November.

Anthony Douglas Owens, 26, of 50 Lunsford Road, was arrested Sunday by a Georgia State Patrol officer and charged in connection with the incident which happened nearly a month ago. Owens was charged with aggravated assault and home invasion.

The man he reportedly attacked, Eric Lee Mullins, 30, of 972 Leonard Bridge Road, is also in jail on a battery charge stemming from an incident with his girlfriend later in the day. Both Owens and Mullins were still in the Murray County jail on Monday afternoon.

According to the report from Nov. 5, witnesses said Owens and three other people arrived at Mullins’ residence and Owens busted down the locked door “like an ox.” Owens then began hitting Mullins with the wrench and kicking and punching him “in the ribs and anywhere he could land a hit while the others watched and tried not to get involved.”

A female witness who was at the residence told deputies there was a disagreement between the two over who Mullins allows his girlfriend to hang around. By the time deputies arrived at the residence, Owens had left in his car and Mullins had left on foot.

Later in the day, 911 received a call saying that Mullins and his girlfriend were walking along the road when a car with three people in it tried to give the girlfriend a ride, but Mullins wouldn’t allow it. A witness said Owens pushed down a female passenger in the car and then slammed the car door on the arm of his girlfriend when she was able to get into the car.

Owens is scheduled for a bond hearing today, while Mullins is in jail on a $2,000 bond.
