MOULTRIE – The Colquitt County flag football team, fresh off first- and second-round shutout victories, will travel on Monday to Loganville to face Grayson in a quarterfinal game.
The Lady Packers, now 18-6 and ranked No. 6 in Division 4 by MaxPreps, have achieved one program milestone with the victories over Kell and Mill Creek on Thursday.
Last year, in its first season of competition, Colquitt won its first round playoff game over Centennial, but then was eliminated by McEachern.
With a quarterfinal round berth secured, the Lady Packers now will try to qualify for its first Final Four.
They will have to travel more than 200 miles and have to play a 20-5 Grayson team that eliminated Marietta 21-0 and South Forsyth 14-7 at home on Thursday.
Although both No. 8-ranked Grayson and Colquitt County are area champions, Grayson won the coin toss to play host to the quarterfinal matchup.
The Lady Rams are playing their fifth season of flag football and were the Area 7 champions last year.
But they were upset in the first round and eliminated by West Forsyth, the No. 4 team from Area 6.
Grayson has rebounded this season, however, to win all six of its Area 4 games and is 9-0 at home.
The Lady Rams are also riding a 12-game winning streak and have surrendered just a tick over seven points a game this season.
The Lady Packers have won eight of their last nine games and were particularly impressive defensively in the 26-0 win over Kell and the 14-0 shutout of Mill Creek on Tom White Field at Mack Tharpe Stadium.
Colquitt is led offensively by senior rushers and receivers Ta’Meria Williams, Caylnn Singletary and Amareyia Knighton and quarterback Mashayla Davis.
Williams, Singletary and Knighton also key a flag-pulling and pass-intercepting defense.
The Colquitt County-Grayson winner will advance to the Final Four to play the survivor of the game between 23-0 and No. 1-ranked McEachern and No. 9-ranked Central Gwinnett.
The state championship game is scheduled to be played at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 18, at Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
Colquitt is the lone Area 1 team left standing in the Division 4 playoffs.
Area runner-up Lowndes defeated North Cobb 34-12 in its opener at home on Friday, but then was eliminated when it fell 7-0 to Greater Atlanta Christian School.
No. 3 Thomas County Central also won its opener, eliminating Etowah 14-7.
But the Lady Jackets were no match for Paulding County and fell 33-12.
Valdosta dropped its playoff opener to Cherokee 6-0.
