Rants and Raves for June 9

Published 10:37 pm Tuesday, June 8, 2010

Note to readers

It’s time for a review of Rants and Raves rules. Please do not send a rant or rave in all capital letters. Your chances of getting one in all caps published is slim and none.

It’s impossible to print all the rants and raves we receive since we get about 200 per week, therefore we try to print a representative sample. However,  you can keep submitting your comment and perhaps your draw will come up.

We are very lenient in the length of rants and raves, but please try not to exceed a maximum of 125 words. Stick to the point and make it quick. Do not use vulgar language.

We encourage the public to use this column to praise, offer suggestions, complain and explore ideas. Meanwhile, lengthy, detailed commentary must be submitted as letters to the editor or guest columns, bearing your signature, phone number for verification, and address.

We feel public forum is vital to democracy. We welcome and encourage your participation.

No, I don’t

“A Moultrie billboard with the likeness of George W. Bush asks “Do you miss me yet?” The answer is,  heck no!

Clinton

“In reference to that billboard out on U.S. 319 north, I don’t miss Bush at all. I do miss Bill Clinton. We actually had money in the bank in those days.

Cell phones

“I saw what appeared to be two brain-dead individuals riding along in the same car, both sitting in the front seat, both talking on cell phones. One is driving. What do you think the chances are that these two idiots were talking to each other?

Compassion?

“To the nurse ranter: I hope my life never depends on your compassion for other human beings. You of all people should know the dangers of unattended births, which would be the norm were prenatal treatment not available to the poorest of us all. No child’s life is worth your selfishness.

Hypocritical

“The Pilgrims had just left England in search of a better life not 2 generations before the Founding Fathers declared war on England, and without valid visas and work permits, I might add. Just showed up one day and started colonizing. So to tell Mexican Nationals to not desert their country is a bit hypocritical.

Idenpendents

“I think the time is right for an uprising, uplifting an Independent Party. Republicans and Democrats have both failed us. To me the term ‘independent’ better exemplifies what our founding fathers had in mind.
