Sharks fourth in Georgia Games swim meet

Caroline Wills competed for the Moultrie Sharks on Saturday.

MOULTRIE — Kaitlyn Mitchell continued her string of strong performances on Saturday, leading the Moultrie Sharks Swim Team to a fourth-place finish in the team’s own Georgia Games Invitational.

Mitchell took gold medals in four of her five events and earned a silver medal in the other to score 39 points for the Sharks.

Jonathan Ladson, Patti Mitchell, Owen Harrell, Skyler Waller and Owen Harrell also had strong performances.

The Tiftarea Tidal Wave took first place in the 11-team field, putting up 887.50 points.

The Thomasville YMCA Swimming Team was secondwith 493 points and was followed by the Valdosta YMCA Piranhas with 428 points and the Sharks with 404.

Vidalia was fifth and was followed by the Bainbridge Barracudas, the Fitzgerald Fins, Suwannee Swim Club, Marianna Swim Team, Columbia Swim Team and the Harris County Tiger Sharks.

Kaitlyn Mitchell, swimming in the 15-18 girls age group won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 57.77, the 50-yard freestyle with a 26.65, the 50-yard breaststroke with a 35.02 and the 100-yard individual medley with a 1:07.02

She also was second in the 50-yard butterfly, turning in a time of 29.74.

 Ladson competes in the 13-14 boys age group and had 34 points.

He won the 50-yard backstroke in a time of 33.23 and was second in the 50-yard freestyle with a 25.95, second in the 100-yard individual medley with a 1:13.05 and second in the 50-yard butterfly with a 29.40.

He placed fourth in the 100-yard freestyle.

Waller and Patti Mitchell each scored 24 points for the Sharks.

Patti was third in the 15-18 50-yard backstroke; fourth in the 100-yard freestyle and the 50-yard freestyle and fifth in the 100-yard individual medley and 50-yard butterfly.

Waller, swimming in the 15-18 boys age group, won the silver medal in the 50-yard freestyle and the bronze in the 50-yard butterfly.

He also was fourth in the 50-yard backstroke, fifth in the 100-yard freestyle and seventh in the 100-yard individual medley.

Harrell also swam in the 15-18 age group.

He earned the silver medal in the 50-yard breaststroke and the bronze in the 50-yard backstroke.

Harrell turned in sixth-place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle and 50-yard backstroke and was seventh in the 100-yard freestyle.

Also turning top-8 finishes and scoring points for the Sharks on Saturday were Destiny Avery, Mollie Brown, Caroline Chapura, Harrison Chapura, Leila Hall, Caroline Harrell, Meg Ladson, Rhett Martin, Madison Montgomery, Jack Perry, Lucas Rivera, Ashton Robinson, Jack Tauton, Lucy Tauton, Logan Tillman, Chloe Tillman, John Brady Tillman, Michael Wills and Natalie Wills.

Also swimming for the Sharks were Maggie Bishop, Anna Cherry, Joshua Cherry, Samuel Cherry, Ivey Cooper, Steven Gibson, Carl Hall, Amanda Key, Ava Morgan, Gillie Morgan, MacKenzie Murphy, Carter Newman, Alex Perry, Mateo Quintero, Ryleigh Robinson, Edrianne Roche, Claire Slocumb, Toriona Stewart, Austin Taylor, Lily Tillman, Luke Tompkins, Alexis Turner, Jaina Turner, Ellis Turnipseed, Greer Turnipseed and Caroline Wills.

The Sharks will compete next in the Valdosta Invitational on Saturday, June 25.
