Swim team travels to Lee County Invitational today

The Colquitt County High swim team will compete in its final Region 1-AAAAA tune-up meet today when it travel to Darton College for the Lee County Invitational.

The region meet will be held next Saturday, also at Darton College. Tift County will play host.

Today’s meet starts at 10 a.m. Colquitt County already has qualified its 200-yard freestyle relay team of Connor Walsh, Ethan Sobalvarro, Austin Vines and Cole Wilkes for the state meet. The quartet turned in a time of 1:39.75 at the Packer Invitational on Nov. 20 at Darton College.

“Our goal this meet is to qualify more swimmers and relays for state,” said Colquitt County coach Amanda Grage.

The state meet will be held Feb. 11-12, at Georgia Tech.

Swimming for Colquitt County boys today will be Walsh, in the 200-yard freestyle nad 50-yard freestyle; Sobalvarro, in the 100-yard backstroke and the 100-yard butterfly; Wilkes, in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle; Vines, in the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke; Austin Hawkins, in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle; Landon Bass, in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard breaststroke; and Peyton Childs in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle.

Competing for the Colquitt County girls will be Samantha Price in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle; Brooklyn Walsh in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke; Ashleigh Childs, in the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke; Makayli Crawford, in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle; Staci Repass, in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke; and Caitlin Rollock in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke.
