MOULTRIE, Ga. — A Moultrie man was knocked unconscious when an acquaintance, who claimed the victim owed him money, hit him in the back of the head in a Friday evening assault.
Ricky Lee Arnold, 53, was bleeding when he arrived at his residence in the 200 block of Second Avenue Northwest, a witness told police. He asked people not to call police and went inside to lie down.
About an hour later, at 7 p.m., someone called police, but Arnold refused to speak with an officer before emergency medical personnel took him to Colquitt Regional Medical Center.
At the hospital, Arnold, who police said was intoxicated, told the officer that the attack occurred after he visited some people at a home near his residence. A man there asked Arnold about $45 Arnold owed him for marijuana.
Arnold reported that he and a witness told the man, whose name Arnold told the officer he could not recall, that Arnold already had paid the $45.
As he was walking home the man approached him from behind and hit him in the back of the head with an unknown object, Arnold reported, causing him to lose consciousness “for a little while.”
