- Learn, Create, Repeat
MOULTRIE, Ga. — Do you know what the most powerful word in advertising is? REPEAT. Not only is the word itself persuasively powerful, repeating is also used in marketing. The more a message or opportunity is repeated the more likely it is that people will respond.
Repeating something is also how we learn a new skill. Think about it. When we were learning our multiplication tables we learned through repetition. Flash cards and worksheets were a daily part of the process of learning. It is also the key to learning something new. Not just TRYING something new but LEARNING something new. Why is learning something new important?
When you think about the things you do every day, you probably wouldn’t put learning new things on the list. Living busy and hectic lifestyles makes it difficult to think about learning new things and trying something new, but you could be really missing out both personally and professionally.
These are just some of the benefits of learning new things:
• You grow as a person and improve yourself for the better.
• Learning something new exposes you to new and different opportunities and new experiences that could possibly help you discover a hidden talent. Discovering a hidden talent could potentially add to your bottom line financially.
• Learning a new skill can boost your energy and reduce your stress. Who doesn’t need more energy and less stress?
• Learning is essential for staying on top in this fast-paced world we live in. If we stop learning, we become stagnant personally and professionally.
• Learning new things is very important for your self-esteem. Learning something new keeps brain cells active and allows you to succeed at something new, allowing you to give yourself a big pat on the back!
• Trying anything new ensures you meet new people. You could make new friends and really enhance your social or work life. It is important to try new things and push yourself out of your comfort zone.
Your Colquitt County Arts Center has some fantastic opportunities for you to LEARN, CREATE, REPEAT in this new year. And there is no age limit — on either end of the scale. You are never too young or too old to learn a new skill.

THEATER
Beginning with our Children’s Theater auditions for HONK, JR on Thursday, January 5th 5:00-6:30 PM. Open to Kindergarten through 5th graders. HONK JR is a musical twist on the timeless tale of The Ugly Duckling. Ugly looks quite a bit different from his darling duckling brothers and sisters. The other animals on the farm are quick to notice and point this out, despite his mother’s protective flapping.
Feeling rather foul about himself, the little fowl finds himself on an adventure of self-discovery, all the while unknowingly outwitting a very hungry Cat. Along the way, Ugly meets a whole flock of unique characters and finds out being different is not a bad thing to be.
No previous experience is necessary. $30 production fee covers script, musical cd, show t shirt and use of costumes. Rehearsals will be Tuesday and Thursday 5:30-7:00.
Performances will be February 24th – 26th.
Plans are also underway for a youth production this spring and it’s going to be a fun one!!! Keep your eyes open for more info soon.
Arts Center Theater will once again present the Valentines Dessert Theater on Tuesday, February 14th with the talented Evan Zebley and Lisa Gaines presenting MARRY ME A LITTLE. A charming and bittersweet one act musical revue featuring songs by Stephen Sondheim. Two single strangers, left alone in their studio apartment on a Saturday night, pass their time with sweetly secret, unshared fantasies, never knowing that they’re just a floor away from each other and the end of their lonely dreams. Coffee and Desserts will be served at 7:30 and the show will begin at 8 PM. Tickets are $20 and seating is limited.
Mid-February auditions will be held for the community production of SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY open to 18 years old and up. The Futrelle Sisters—Frankie, Twink, Honey Raye and Rhonda Lynn—are in trouble again. This time, the problem is bigger than ever: Their beloved hometown, Fayro, Texas, is in danger of disappearing, and it’s up to the sisters to save it from extinction. It seems a salsa manufacturing factory is looking to relocate, and a company representative is headed to Fayro on a scouting mission. In fact, Honey Raye has told them that on the very weekend of the rep’s visit, the town just happens to be having their biggest celebration of the year: “Fayro Days,” which includes a craft show, a pet costume parade, a beauty pageant and a huge Civil War battle reenactment. So now it’s up to the citizens of Fayro to quickly make her promises a reality. But how the Futrelle sisters and the other citizens of Fayro, including sweet, simple Raynerd Chisum, pull together and save their town is a testament to Southern strength and ingenuity — and a recipe for total hilarity. Performance Dates are May 5th, 6th, 7th.
