Man accused of driving drunk to probation office

MOULTRIE, Ga. — As bad an idea as it may be to visit your probation officer while drunk, it’s an even worse strategy to drive yourself there in that condition.

That’s what police say 38-year-old Moultrie resident Michael Clay Taylor did on Tuesday morning.

Taylor’s probation officer called police when she smelled what was described as “a strong odor of what she identified as alcohol” when he came into her office. Taylor reportedly told her that he drove himself to the downtown office and had been drinking the previous evening.

When police arrived, Taylor told the officer he had been drinking rum until about 1 a.m. Tuesday. A portable alcohol test indicated that Taylor’s blood alcohol content was .107, above the legal limit of .08 at which a driver is considered impaired.

Taylor, 802 Lane St. E., was charged with driving under the influence. His probation officer also will take a warrant charging him with probation violation, police said.
