Lafayette County Public Library hosting Cookies with Santa
MAYO, Fla. — Lafayette County Public Library will host Cookies with Santa on Friday. Children can drop by the library between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Children under the age of 5 will receive a free book. The library is located at 120 Crawford Street, Mayo. For more information, call 386-294-1021.
Church to welcome community at ‘Blue Christmas’ service
MOULTRIE, Ga. — St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 1499 S. Main St. in Moultrie, will hold an ecumenical “Blue Christmas” service at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, for those who are lonely or troubled this holiday season. The service is intended for those who have lost a loved one, suffered a job loss, struggle with addiction, are estranged from family or who simply feel lonely and sad during Christmastime.
Chain Baseball hosts annual Holiday Clinic
TIFTON, Ga. — Chain Baseball will host its fourth Holiday Clinic Dec. 17 from 9 a.m. until noon. The clinic will cover all aspects of hitting. Instructors include Lane Dixon, Josh Haynes, Harvey Taylor and Brad Taylor. Haynes is the lead instructor at Chain Tifton and formerly played for Darton State. Harvey and Brad Taylor both coach in Fitzgerald and are Chain Mafia 14U coaches. Dixon coaches the Chain Mafia 12U and 13U and is former ABAC and Valdosta State player. Camp costs are $80 if registered by Dec. 14. The cost increases to $100 for walk-ups. The camp takes place at the Chain Sports Academy, 2785 Marshall Drive. Woman reports cash stolen from her vehicle
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — An officer met with a woman in the police department lobby at approximately 4 p.m. Dec. 7 in reference to items being stolen from her vehicle. The woman said that a wallet containing $500 cash and several bank and identification cards had been stolen from her unlocked vehicle the previous night. She stated that beginning at roughly 11:30 that morning, her card began incurring charges from several local stores and gas stations, totaling upwards of $250. The officer then made contact with management at the stores in question and asked to review security footage of the suspect(s). No suspects had been identified at the time of the report.
Martin House latest in downtown ornament series
DALTON, Ga. — Since 1996, the Downtown Dalton Development Authority has traditionally offered a Christmas ornament featuring a downtown icon. This year’s downtown ornament is the historic Martin House. The Martin House, at 101 S. Selvidge St., is now the home of First Presbyterian Church of Dalton. The home was built in 1911 by Mr. and Mrs. William Clinton Martin, who called it home until her death in 1947. The home was one of the finest homes in Dalton at the time, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. Alzheimer group sponsors Christmas dance
VALDOSTA, Ga. — Alzheimer’s Caregiver Time Out sponsors a fundraiser Christmas dance Friday, Dec. 16, at Mathis City Auditorium. Two bands will perform 6-10 p.m. Friday. Jukebox Oldies Band and Drive-In will play to raise funds for ACTO and for research on pulmonary hypertension, according to a press release. Profit from the ticket sales will be equally divided for the two causes. Finger foods are included in the ticket price of just $25 for one ticket or $40 for a pair. Tickets are limited due to space for the dance floor, according to a press release. ACTO is a respite-care service for people suffering with any type of dementia or Alzheimer’s. ACTO is open three days a week, 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. “We serve our clients a light breakfast and a hot well-balanced lunch every day,” according to the organization in a statement. “Our activity coordinator has each day planned with fun activities, crafts, music and light exercises.” ACTO is located at 2700 N. Forrest St. “We strive to give the caregiver a much needed time out but a confidence knowing their loved one is being taken care in a special way,” according to the press release.
