MOULTRIE, Ga. — A Moultrie man’s companions were disappointed that their lunch-time activities were interrupted on Tuesday, but their driver had a tougher go of it — he went to jail.

It was one of two drug-related arrests local authorities made last week.

After seeing the 2015 Nissan Altima parked briefly at a residence, an agent with the Colquitt County Drug Enforcement Team pulled in at 12:42 p.m. behind the car when the driver stopped at a convenience store at 503 First Ave. S.E.

“We got out with a vehicle that had just stopped at a local residence that is known for the alleged sale of illicit drugs,” Inv. Jerome Burgess said.

Burgess said he spoke with driver Shane Steven Tillman and received permission to check the car.

“I heard something rattling in the door” storage pocket, he said. “A pipe was readily visible inside. It was obvious to me what it was for and it was in plain view.”

In addition to the pipe police also found less than a gram of suspected crystal meth, he said.

“It was a pipe for smoking crystal meth,” he said. “The other people in the car were released.”

They, however, seemed greatly upset that their plans had been thwarted, Burgess said.

Tillman, 39, 151-C Bob Hiers Road, was charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of a drug-related object.

In an unrelated arrest Wednesday night, Moultrie police encountered a man at 11:07 p.m. standing on the corner of Third Avenue and Third Street Northwest.

When an officer stopped to check on the man, later identified as Elbernezer Bershon Walker, he began talking but his speech was unintelligible.

Officers asked Walker where he was staying, since he said he lived in New York, and he responded at his “baby mama” house at Moultrie Manor apartments.

Walker’s pupils were wide, police said, as if he were under the influence of an illegal substance. When he gave permission for police to search him for weapons they found a plastic bag containing suspected crack cocaine as well as another bag and plastic wrapper that both contained suspected cocaine residue.

As officers began to handcuff Walker they noticed that he was clenching his left hand. When they opened the hand they saw two white “rocks” of suspected cocaine that he was trying to crush, police said.

They also found a pipe inside a cigarette package in his jacket pocket.

Police charged Walker, 45, 1209 Murdock St., with possession of cocaine and tampering with evidence.
