Tyler Robinson wins state FFA event

- Kaitlyn Hart recently placed second in floral design at the area FFA competition, which was good enough to send her to the state competition. She placed fifth at the state level.
MOULTRIE, Ga. — Colquitt County High school FFA has been very busy lately as members compete in Career Development Events at the area and state levels.
Tyler Robinson recently competed in the Job Interview CDE where he won first place in Area, which earned him the right to advance to the state level.
Robinson created a resume and cover letter and interviewed with a panel for a job related to agriculture. He placed first in the state and will continue on to compete at the national level next year at the 90th annual FFA convention held in Indianapolis, Ind.
This is the third time in four years that a Colquitt County FFA member has won this competition and it is among one of the most participated in competitions in the FFA.
Kaitlyn Hart placed second in area the floral design competition and advanced to the State competition where she placed fifth in the state. Hart was given a scenario at the competition and had to create a floral design based on the given scenario. She also had to identify plants commonly used in the floral industry as well as take a knowledge test related to the floral industry.
Mackenzie Blair, Andrew Gay, and Austin Watson made up the CCHS Meats Evaluation team. They placed second at area and earned the right to advance to the state competition where they placed ninth in the state. The meats evaluation team is tasked with identifying cuts of meat, evaluating carcasses for quality, and completing a test over real-world scenarios that people in the meat production industry must accomplish.
Libba Johnson, Jacob Murphy, Ryan Nowland, and Logan Moore are the members of the Farm Business Management team. They placed first at the area competition and advanced to the state level held at ABAC where they placed fourth in the state. These students must take a written test and complete a team activity over different scenarios farm owners face every day to run a successful operation.
Dykes Hurst placed second in the area Tractor and Machinery Operation and Maintenance CDE. The Tractor and Machinery Operations & Maintenance CDE is designed to develop skills in operating tractors and various pieces of machinery safely, as well as maintaining the tractor and machinery in a safe and productive manner. Dykes advanced to the state level where he placed fifth in Georgia.
