JEKYLL ISLAND, GA. -Yvonne Huckaby Beasley, 85, of Jekyll Island, Ga., died Monday, August 17, 2015, at the Senior Care Nursing Home in Brunswick, GA.
Graveside rites will be 10 a.m., Friday, August, 21, at Mt. Sinai Cemetery in Doerun with Pastor Ty Smith officiating.
Casketbearers will be her nephews.
She fought a hard fight with Alzheimer’s disease for 10 years. She was born June 15, 1930, in Cordele, Ga. She was the eldest child of Roy A. Huckaby and Ruth Good Huckaby along with a brother, Ronald and a sister Loreita, all who have preceded her in death.
After graduating from high school, she moved to Albany, Ga., where she attended Business College and employment with RE Funsten Pecan Company and Lilliston Implement Company. While at Business College, she met her future husband-to-be, Roy Beasley. They married September 23, 1951. They remained in Albany for many years until October, 1962, when her husband, who was an official with CSX Railroad, was transferred to Brunswick. In April, 1964, they built their home on Jekyll Island where she and Roy “spent many happy years enjoying the many friendships developed over the years and the unmatched beauty of the entire Golden Isles. Even during retirement she still enjoyed employment with Brunswick Chamber of Commerce and the Welcome Center at the St. Simons causeway,” family said. For many years she served as Election Poll Captain of the Jekyll Precinct. She was of the Baptist faith and she and Roy were among the original group of Baptist Jekyll Islanders who helped establish the Jekyll Island Baptist Church.
Mrs. Beasley is survived by her husband of 63 years, Roy Dennis Beasley, Jr.; one son, Roy Dennis Beasley III (Dorene); three grandchildren, Dalton, Dyson, and Derek all residing in Woodstock, G.; and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to acknowledge and give grateful thanks to all organizations such as Alzheimer’s of Brunswick, Coastal Area on Aging with Tori Windsor, Brunswick Multi-purpose center and its dedicated and professional help and assistance when needed, Community Care Services, Savannah, Ga., with Carol Duke and Brightstar Home Health, and especially Sylvia Thompson, caregiver to Mrs. Beasley, the entire staff of Dr. Scott Clay for their relentless and tireless pursuit of the best medicine and care available while administering their services to Mrs. Beasley as she and they so bravely fought her battle against this Alzheimer’s disease, and most recently Bayview Nursing Home in Nahunta, Ga., and Senior Care Center in Brunswick, Ga.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, August 20, at Cobb Funeral Chapel in Moultrie.
The family requests that any memorial contributions be made to the Brunswick Alzheimer’s Chapter, 2803 Sherwood Drive, Brunswick, Ga., 31520 and/or the Brunswick Multi-Purpose Center Adult Day Care, 2001 I St., Brunswick, GA.
