JV, ninth-grade and eighth-grade football teams win

MOULTRIE — Tucker Hathcock completed 15-of-17 passes for 236 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Colquitt County ninth-grade football team to a 42-7 victory over Lowndes on Thursday at Tom White Field at Mack Tharpe Stadium.
Also on Thursday, the Colquitt County junior varsity won at Lowndes 41-28 and the eighth-grade team won at Valdosta 22-20.
After Hathcock led the ninth-graders to a 35-0 lead after three quarters, Albert Stringer added a sixth touchdown on a 42-yard pass to Ty Williams with 6:23 left in the game.
The only Lowndes score came on a 33-yard touchdown pass with 1:07 left in the fourth quarter, which was played with a running clock.
The victory raises the ninth-grade team’s record to 3-1 and it will play host to Valdosta at 6 p.m. next Thursday.
The Wildcats dealt Colquitt its only loss by a 19-6 score on Aug. 27
Colquitt has won its last two games over Lee County and Lowndes by a combined 92-15.
“I though our offensive line did a great job and we caught the football,” ninth-grade head coach Danny Blaylock said. “And the defense played hard and swarmed to the football. We’ve just got to stay focused.”
The Packers got their first big play on the first snap of the game when Ethan Dean picked off a Lowndes pass.
Colquitt was unable to cash it in, but later in the quarter, the Packers drove 50 yards in nine plays with Ty Leggett scoring the first touchdown on a 2-yard run. Irwin Bautista kicked the extra point.
Colquitt also started its next possession at midfield and needed just five plays to score, when Hathcock threw to Marvion McDonald from 10 yards out and after Bautista’s conversion, the Packers were up 14-0 with 8:38 left in the half.
The Packers scored the next time they had the ball as well with Hathcock connecting with KT Wilson on a 39-yard scoring pass.
Colquitt led 21-0 at the half, but took the second half kickoff and drove for another scored on a 29-yard throw from Hathcock to a wide open Akeem McKiever.
After forcing a Lowndes punt, Colquitt scored again on a 33-yard pass from Hathcock to Deontre Daniels.
The JV team’s victory raises their record to 3-0. The JV Packers have scored 116 points in those games and now have won 11 straight dating back to 2013.
The JV team will travel to Valdosta next Thursday.
The eighth-grade Packers got a 70-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jaycee Harden to Montavious Ponder that tied the game at 20-20 with less than five minutes remaining.
Harden then threw to Thomayus Tyler for the 2-point conversion and the lead and Colquitt held on for the win.
Harden scored the Packers first touchdown on a 6-yard run and threw to Desmen Davis for the 2-point conversion.
JaMichael Jones scored the other Colquitt County touchdown on a 40-yard fumble return.
“It was a real rollercoaster game,” eighth-grade head coach Jimmy Whitfield said.
The eighth-grade Packers also are 3-0 now and will play host to Coffee at 4:30 p.m. next Thursday.
The Colquitt County football teams are a combined 15-2 with the sub-varsity teams posting a 12-2 record.
