MOULTRIE – The Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine wants to establish a free primary care clinic at the Colquitt County Health Department.

Tonya Bozeman, director of the Colquitt County Health Department, presented the proposal to the Colquitt County Commission at its work session Tuesday. 

“PCOM is wanting to have a partnership with us. They’re actually wanting to utilize our facility, after hours, one day a week, potentially two days a week, for just a couple of hours,” she said.

She went on to say that the medical school would use two to three exam rooms, the lobby, the general clinic and the intake area.

“They have received a grant that helps pay for the services that they are providing and they’re offering to have a diabetic clinic, hypertension and provide health information on other issues, to under-insured patients,” Bozeman said.

Commissioner Barbara Jelks asked if the clinic was going to be open to the public and Bozeman replied that it was.

County Attorney Lester Castellow said that he would draw up an agreement with PCOM that gives them permission to use the health department, which is the county’s building, as long as the Department of Public Health and PCOM agree on it.

The contract will be ready for review by the commissioners at their next meeting.
