Vernon A. “Pete” Boone

ADEL — Vernon A. “Pete” Boone, 86, of Adel, Georgia, died Wednesday Nov. 4, 2015, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, Georgia, following a short illness. He was born in Cook County on April 10, 1929, to the late John Wesley Boone and Susie Mittie Wilkerson Boone. He lived in Cook County all of his life and attended Westside Baptist Church. He served his country honorably during the Korean Conflict in the United States Navy and also served as Cook County Tax Commissioner for four years. Mr. Boone served his community, friends and family as a funeral director for 61 and a half years and was the former owner of Boone Funeral Home of Adel.

Mr. Boone is survived by his wife, Pauline “Polly” Graham Boone of Adel; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dale and Dawn Boone of Adel, and Dr. David and Pam Boone of Macon, Georgia; two daughters and a son-in-law, Deann Boone Rassatt, and Debi and Albert Weidinger, all of Valdosta; five grandchildren, Tyler and Miranda Boone, Tanner Boone, Turner Boone, all of Adel, Adam Rassatt and Amber Rassatt of Valdosta, Mackenzie Boone and Dillon Boone of Macon, Carly Weidinger and Carter Weidinger of Valdosta; four great-grandchildren, Kenly and Kolby Boone, Jacob and Charlee Johnson, all of Adel; a stepson and stepdaughter, Gary Veal and Susan Daniel, both of Ocilla, Georgia; five stepgrandchildren and eight stepgreat-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marjorie Boone of Adel; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Vona and Becky Rewis of Adel; and sister-in-law, Suzanne Rewis Hughes of Albany, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.  

In addition to his parents, Mr. Boone was preceded in death by his first wife of 35 years, Luverne Rewis Boone; four brothers, Leon Boone, Dewey Boone, Elvin “Shorty” Boone and Leroy Boone; and two sisters, Neita Mae Taylor and Tamsie Mercer.

The Boone family will receive friends Friday evening, Nov. 6,  beginning at 4 p.m. at Boone Funeral Home, 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave., in Adel.  

The funeral service will be held Saturday, Nov. 7, at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Adel with Dr. Danny Ray, Rev. Johnny Hendley and Mr. Keith Howze officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
