A Thursday night police chase that started in Norman Park and ended in Moultrie resulted in police finding suspected methamphetamine and charging a Douglas woman with numerous traffic violations.

A Norman Park Police Department officer tried to stop a Chevrolet Suburban at about 10:45 p.m. after noticing its driver’s side brake and tail lights were not working. As he tried to catch up with the car, the driver made a sharp turn onto West Weeks Street and another onto Short Street before running two stop signs, turning onto U.S. 319 and heading toward Moultrie, police said.

The chase reached speeds of 90 miles per hour, police said. When the driver, identified as Terri Lynn Harrell, reached the intersection with North Veterans Parkway a number of police cars were waiting.

Harrell turned into the Chevron convenience store and tried to turn onto Highway 133 North before a Moultrie officer blocked her path.

After a police dog alerted to drugs, officers found a container disguised as a drink can that contained suspected methamphetamine.

Harrell, 57, 726 Hansell Sears Road, Douglas, was charged with fleeing or attempting to elude police officer, reckless driving, possession of methamphetamine, failure to obey stop sign, driving while license withdrawn, defective equipment and operation of vehicle with improper plate.
