It might be considered an instance of adding insult to injury.
A Moultrie man was arrested Saturday when he showed up with alcohol in his system at a court-ordered meeting where victims of drunk drivers relate their stories.
Michael Trevor Haynes, 226 Second Ave. S.W., was charged with public drunkenness after a deputy smelled alcohol on him shortly before 10 a.m., Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office reports said. He was attending a Mothers Against Drunk Driving victim impact panel at the time.
Haynes told the deputy that he had been out at a club in Sylvester the previous night and had his last drink at about 5 a.m. A test indicated that he had a blood alcohol content of 0.073. A reading of 0.08 is the threshold at which a driver is considered to be under the influence.
Haynes was sentenced from Municipal Court to attend the victim impact panel.
