MOULTRIE — Sharon Gail Flowers Harnage, 67, of Moultrie, died Friday, Oct. 3, 2014, at Select Specialty Hospital in Tallahassee, Fla.

Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, at First Presbyterian Church of Moultrie with the Rev. Hugh Ward officiating, assisted by the Rev. A.J. Mealor. Mrs. Harnage chose cremation as her final disposition.

Casketbearers will be James Flowers, Greg Harnage, Bobby Harnage Jr., Matthew Rodgers, Nicolas Rodgers, Michael Rodgers, Zachary Rodgers and Mike Boyd.

Born Nov. 19, 1946, in Flint, Mich., she was the daughter of the late Paul Bernard Flowers (MSGT, U.S.A., Ret.) and Bonnie Meddock Flowers. She was a retired management specialist with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) with 28 years of service, and served on the National HUD Negotiating Committee. She served 10 years as president of the Florida Local Union of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) and was the former state women’s coordinator. She also served as the AFGE 5th District Coordinator for the Southeast, including Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. “Sharon was a pioneer for women, involving them in leadership roles and gaining equal rights for women,” her family remembered. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Moultrie.

Survivors include her husband, Bobby L. Harnage Sr. of Moultrie; four children, Tammie Lazzara of Moultrie, Michele Rodgers of McDonough, Ga., Bobby L. Harnage Jr. of Newnan, Ga. and Greg S. Harnage of Marietta, Ga.; eight grandchildren, Matthew Rodgers, Nicolas Rodgers, Michael Rodgers, Zachary Rodgers, Lindsey Harnage, Katherine Harnage, Jennifer Harnage and Ian Lazzara; one sister, Debora Bechtloff; one brother, James Flowers; and two nephews, Jonathan Bechtloff and Jimmy Flowers.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Cobb Funeral Chapel, Moultrie, Ga.
