The CCCAA is given to a living individual who has excelled in their career field of choice in business, academics, science or the arts and who has strong ties to the county, including having attended school in Colquitt County for a substantial number of years.
The community recognized Moultrie native J. Wayne Littles as the recipient of the inaugural Colquitt County Career Achievement Award in March 2012 for his work with the NASA Space Shuttle and Space Station as well as a wide range of science programs.
In 2013 Terry T. Turner took home the honor for his accomplishments in the field of andrology, or male reproductive biology, and for his success as an author under the pen name of David Donovan through two memoirs — one which details his counterinsurgency service as a U.S. Army soldier in Vietnam and one which chronicles his upbringing on a rural Colquitt County farm.
“Our Colquitt County schools have produced several individuals who have achieved in a very significant manner. Recognition of these individuals through the Colquitt County Career Achievement Award will not only honor them but bring pride to our community and inspire our current students to reach for the stars,” said CCCAA board member Brooks Sheldon.
The purpose of the award, added Sheldon, is to instill the importance of nurturing and fostering the goals and aspirations of youth in the community with regard to the possibilities of future career success.
Nominations are currently being solicited for the 2014 Colquitt County Career Achievement Award recipient. Nomination forms may be obtained at the Moultrie-Colquitt County Chamber of Commerce. Completed forms, as well as a bio or curriculum vitae (CV) with basic career information included, should be submitted by Friday, Jan. 24.
