Would-be shoplifter can’t pull it off

“Those batteries I didn’t steal? I want to return them,” was the message a shoplifter had for a store employee Sunday evening.

Dollar General, 1908 First Ave. S.E., reported to Moultrie police that a man came into the store at about 8:15 p.m. and put two packs of Energizer batteries into his pockets.

An employee told police that when she confronted him the man denied stealing any batteries and walked out of the store.

A few minutes later he came back in and tried to return batteries using a receipt that he picked up off the ground.

The employee confronted the man and he again left. The employee was familiar with the man and gave police his name.

Arrests

Moultrie Police

• Sandra Adams, 40, 414 11th Court N.W., was charged Tuesday with disorderly conduct.

Police were called at about 1 a.m. to the residence of Sandra and DeAngelo Adams, who told police that his wife became violent during an argument.

He reported that Sandra Adams hit her head on a cabinet as she went for a cutting object, and police said she had a bump on her head.

Sandra Adams refused to give her account of the incident and interrupted repeatedly as officers tried to speak with DeAngelo Adams, reports said, so Sandra Adams was arrested.

• Frankie McIntyre, 43, 1202 Highland Blvd., was charged Monday with driving under the influence, duty to obey and failure to stop at stop sign.

Police stopped McIntyre at about 6:47 p.m. near the intersection of Fifth Street and Fourth Avenue Southwest, where police said he failed to stop at a stop sign. McIntyre smelled strongly of alcohol, police said, and when an officer tried to take his wrist he ran away and ignored commands to stop.

Police caught up with McIntyre and he was taken to Colquitt County Jail, where a breath test indicated he had drunk more than the legal limit.

• Ciscero Wheeler JR., 34, was charged Monday with probation violation.

• Michael Shane Riggins, 39, 1003 James Ave., Tifton, was charged Monday with probation violation.

• Demetrius Bernard Sinclair, 28, 710 First Ave. S.W., was charged Monday with probation violation.

• Jeremy Daryl Pamore, 26, was charged Monday with probation violation.

Sheriff’s Office

• Timna McCammon, 27, 1200 South Blvd. S.E., was charged Monday with battery.

McCammon was arrested after Chasity Merritt, 27, of the 600 block of Second Avenue Northwest reported getting into a fight with her.

Both women told police that Merritt went to McCammon’s residence  Sunday night.

 Merritt reported that McCammon hit her in the face and threw a bottle at her, while McCammon reported being choked.

Merritt had swelling to her right eye, sheriff’s reports said. There were no marks on McCammon’s neck.

• Martin Juan, 25, 600 Circle Road, was charged Monday with pedestrian under the influence.

• Alexander Tyler Pitts, 17, 327 Swift Canteen Road, was charged Monday with driving without license, defective equipment, failure to drive within single lane and failure to stop for stop sign.

 

Berlin Police

• Sydney Brenton Henry, 53, 773 Chapman St., Jonesboro, was charged Monday with illegal parking and driving without license on person.

Doerun Police

• Dena Bledsoe Lott, 51, 3349 Evergreen St., Baconton, was charged Monday with driving under the influence, driving while license withdrawn and open container in vehicle.

Thefts

Moultrie Police

• Patrina Ward, Moultrie, reported Monday the theft of a credit card and $590 in a case of theft of lost or mislaid property.

• Packer Food Mart, 1409 N. Main St., reported Monday that a women drove away without paying for $32 worth of gasoline after being told that she could not pay with a blank check.

The woman presented a driver’s license identifying her as 29 years old and from Thomasville.

 A store employee reported that the woman returned later and paid for the gasoline, police said, and no charges were filed.

Sheriff’s Office

• Kristina Romula, 600 block Bluebird Road, reported Monday that a license plate was stolen off a 2000 Ford Contour and a leather horse saddle was taken from a barn.

The total value of the stolen property was $1,020.

Property damage

Moultrie Police

• Nikul Parikh, 1700 block First Avenue Southeast, reported Sunday that someone broke a window of his son’s 2007 Land Rover Range Rover, possibly with a B B gun.

The back window on the driver’s side was shattered, police reports said.

• Sheila Williams, Moultrie, reported Monday that the front bumper of a Chrysler 300 was damaged while the car was parked in the 400 block of Hillcrest Avenue.

• Jay Faircloth, Moultrie, reported that a 2010 Ford F-150 was struck by another car while parked on Harper Boulevard at Spence Field.

• Betty Briones, 1100 block Fifth Street Southwest, reported Monday that several juveniles damaged property in her yard, including a portable fire pit and a toy computer console.

She also reported that a window was broken at a nearby vacant house and a neighbor reported seeing three people tearing shingles from the roof there.

Police talked to the three juveniles identified and their parents. No charges were filed.

• John Redding, 36, Moultrie, reported Monday that after a minor collision with another car in the 700 block of Fifth Avenue Southeast the other driver left without stopping.

Sheriff’s Office

• Ronnie Fields, 400 block Jim Clark Road, Omega, reported Monday that the driver of another car did not stop after striking his 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe at the intersection of U.S. Highway 319 and Jim Clark Road.

Other investigations

Moultrie Police

• Bridgette Calhoun, 1400 block Sixth Avenue Southwest, reported Monday that her daughter ran away.

Calhoun told police that the girl may have gone to her father’s residence, but did not give an address, reports said. Calhoun then walked into her house, turned off the porch light and refused to respond to police.

Sheriff’s Office

• Richard Foster, 300 block Big Bear Road, Norman Park, reported a suspicious truck at a vacant lot next door.

Foster told police that he saw a 1994 Chevrolet extended cab pickup truck towing a trailer there Sunday and that the driver left before a deputy arrived.

 Foster saw the truck there again Monday morning but the driver left again when he realized Foster had noticed him.
