Moultrie swimmer Meg Howell recently competed as part of the Area Tallahassee Aquatic Club (ATAC) in the 2014 Chip George Classic Swimming Invitational held at the Alan J. Bohlert Indoor Pool at Westgate Memorial Park in Dothan, Ala.

ATAC took 59 swimmers to the meet, which was held over two days and included swimmers from Florida, Georgia and Alabama.

Howell, 9, participated in 10 individual events and two relay events in the 9-10 girls age division, which  consisted of approximately 30 swimmers.

Howell posted several personal best swimming times and received the award for second place overall in her age division behind 10-year- old Maggie White of the Eufaula Waverunners Swim Team.

Howell scored 169 points in the competition, helping her team win first place in the meet with a total of 5,028 points.

Dothan Dolphins Swim Team placed second with 3,665 points and third place went to Coast Aquatics from Florida’s Emerald Coast with 1,316 points.

The Chip George Classic was Howell’s first meet following her successful swims at the 2014 Florida Swimming Spring Age Group Championship (FLAGS) held in Sarasota, Fla., where she qualified as a 9-year-old in the girls 10- and-under division.

The FLAGS meet showcased the best swimmers in Florida ages 14 and younger who must make qualifying times in their age divisions to be eligible to compete.

More than 950 swimmers representing the best of 63 teams from across Florida participated in the four-day meet.

Including Howell, ATAC sent 21 qualifying swimmers to the meet and placed 13th out of 55 scoring teams in the final combined standings.
