A nationally recognized storyteller will be at the Brooks County Library for two shows June 16.

A native of Covington, GA, Andy Offutt Irwin is a storyteller, humorist, singer, songwriter, musician, whistler, walking menagerie of sound effects and dialects, and so much more.

He was awarded the 2013 National Storytelling Network Circle of Excellence Award, and all five of his storytelling CDs have won Storytelling Word Awards. He has been a Guest Artist at La Guardia High School of Art, Music, and Performing Arts in New York (The “FAME!” School); and he has been a keynote speaker and performer at the Library of Congress-Virburnum Foundation Conference on Family Literacy.  Irwin also does occasional theatrical projects for Oxford College of Emory University where he was Artist in Residence, 1991-2007.

He is the recipient of many awards, including the Oracle 2013 Circle of Excellence from the National Storytelling Network.

Irwin does many different educational programs and camps for children, where he focuses on literacy, storytelling, music, and taking care of the environment.  He tours across the country with other artists and as a one-man show.

Irwin will be at Brooks County Public Library for two one-man show extravaganzas June 16. The 10 a.m. show will be for chldren and families, and the 7 p.m. show will feature “Sister True.” The evening show is for grown-ups, but it’s OK for kids too, according to a press release from the library.
