Waldrop finds great success with Colquitt County FFA

Jim Waldrop poses with the awards he received at the recent FFA state convention, including the State Star in Agricultural Business and first place in his Turfgrass Management Project, which entitles him to compete at the national convention in October.

Jim Waldrop, son of Ricky and Vicki Waldrop of Hartsfield, and graduating senior at Colquitt County High School has done it all this year as a senior FFA member.

Waldrop served the Colquitt County FFA as president of the chapter. Additionally, he has won just about every major award that an FFA member can win.

Among the 700 Georgia FFA State Degree recipients, all have the opportunity to become State Stars in their specific area. Only 3 students, one from North Region, one from Central Region, and one from South Region of the 700 are selected to be the Stars. Waldrop was selected as the South Region Star in Agribusiness and competed at the Convention for the honor of the State Star. He won the event and was named the State Star in Agricultural Business earning him a scholarship with his project based on his landscaping business.

Waldrop was a state qualifier with his Landscape Management project where he was 2nd place in the state and with his Turfgrass Management Project where he was the state winner and will advance to the national competition.

Additionally, he was the High Individual on the Livestock Judging Team and has earned a livestock judging scholarship to attend Redlands Community College in El Reno, Okla..

Waldrop will continue in his FFA membership and compete at the National FFA Convention in October.
