MOULTRIE – Etowah converted a penalty kick with under four minutes remaining to take a 1-0 victory over the Colquitt County boys soccer team in the first round of the state playoffs on Wednesday.
The loss ends the Packers season with a 9-9 record.
Colquitt was the No. 4 seed and held the Region 5 champion Eagles scoreless until the referee awarded the penalty kick.
“Great game … battled for 76 minutes,” said Packers coach Colby Simpson, who was disappointed with the call that allowed Etowah to attempt the penalty kick.
The Packers were 4-6 in the region.
The Colquitt County girls soccer team also was eliminated in the first round, falling at Walton 11-0 on Tuesday.
The Lady Packers finish 5-14 overall and finished fourth in the region with a 3-7 record.
The Colquitt girls team did not have a senior on its roster this season.
