MOULTRIE – The Colquitt County soccer teams will go to the Atlanta area next week to open the state playoffs.
The Colquitt County boys finished fourth in Region 1-6A and will travel to Cherokee County on Wednesday to meet Region 5 champion Etowah in the first round.
After falling 2-1 to Lowndes on the road on Friday, the Colquitt County boys are 9-8 overall and finished 4-6 in the region.
Their overall record is similar to one owned by Etowah, which is 8-7.
The Eagles won the Region 5 championship with a 5-1 record.
If the Packers can get past Etowah, they would go on the road again to play the winner of the Mill Creek-East Coweta match.
Coach Colby Simpson’s Packers are led by seniors Will Blanton, Turner Brice McDaniel, Gilbert Cruz-Morales, Edgar Contreras Gallardo, Cason Haskin and Adrian Gallardo.
Region 1-6A champion Richmond Hill (10-0 in the region and 15-3 overall) will play host to North Paulding in the first round.
Second-place Camden County, whose only region losses came at the hands of Richmond Hill, will be home to face Walton in the first round.
Lowndes, which finished third in the region, will travel to meet Region 5 runner-up Marietta.
The Lady Packers 5-13 overall and 3-7 in the region, will bus to Cobb County on Tuesday to meet 15-2 Walton, the Region 5 champion.
The Lady Raiders are ranked No. 5 in Georgia and No. 12 in the nation by MaxPreps.
An upset of Walton would send the Lady Packers to face Mountain View-Chapel Hill winner.
Region 1 runner-up Camden County will play host to Cherokee. Camden is 16-2 overall and 8-2 in the region.
No. 4 Lowndes, 13-6 overall and 6-4 in the region, will travel to North Paulding.
