MOULTRIE – Colquitt County’s revived slow-pitch softball team dropped a regular-season ending doubleheader on Friday at top-ranked Richmond Hill.
The Lady Packers, now 6-4, will play next in the 16-team state tournament that will be held April 16-17 at Twin Creeks Park in Woodstock.
Colquitt’s first opponent in the tournament has not been announced.
The Lady Packers are No. 8 in the Georgia High School Association’s updated slow-pitch rankings.
The Colquitt County girls opened and closed the regular season with doubleheaders against two of the top three programs in the state.
On February 26, the Lady Packers dropped their season-openers 19-4 and 19-0 at West Laurens, currently 10-0 and ranked No. 3.
Colquitt then swept three straight doubleheaders, all at Packer Park.
The Lady Packers defeated East Laurens 13-9 and 18-5; Macon County 14-2, 11-0; and Hancock Central 21-0, 21-0.
East Laurens finished the regular season with a 6-4 record. Macon County is 2-8. Hancock Central is 0-8.
After the long bus trip to Richmond Hill on Wednesday, the Lady Packers lost to the Lady Wildcats 16-1 and 9-1.
Richmond Hill finishes the regular season with a 12-0 record and sits atop the state rankings.
Richmond Hill went 13-5 and finished third in the state in 2024 in its return to slow-pitch.
Colquitt County coach Chance Pitts, who did not make the trip to Richmond Hill while recovering from recent hip surgery, said Wednesday’s games will help prepare his first-year team for the kind of competition it can expect to face in the state tournament.
Anna Lynn Armstrong and Allie Eure each had four hits in the doubleheader against Richmond Hill.
One of Eure’s was a double.
Kamry Paulk had three hits, including a double.
Karleigh Heard, Ava Fields and Addison Moore each had one hit.
