LETTER TO THE EDITOR: The last Library Week in America?
Published 5:44 pm Tuesday, April 8, 2025
Hello,
My name is Raymond N. Murray, a child of this fine community, and proponent of the library. I used services like it to write the first draft of my manuscript, and it was essential to its creation. I know that you’re probably aware of Trump’s executive order targeting the Institute of Museum and Library Services or IMLS. Which provides funds to every library in the country.
After 4 out of 5 of the Big 5 publishers— Rupert Murdoch owned Harper Collins did not mind you— sent a letter to Congress to reject his order, he in turn, appointed a new Acting Director of the IMLS, who proceeded to furloughed the entire staff.
The act shouldn’t be seen as just a little alarming, but as shot across the bow against literacy, and an informed public. Our libraries should be protected. I don’t want this to be the FINAL LIBRARY WEEK IN AMERICA.
Sincerely,
Raymond N. Murray
