MOULTRIE – Colquitt County and Moss Farms diver Carson Tyler added two more NCAA national championships to his resume last week.
The Indiana University and 2024 U.S. Olympic Team diver defended his 3-meter and platform championships in the NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving National Championships held in Federal Way, Washington.
His platform title was a record-setting third in a row. He is the first diver to have won three straight NCAA platform titles.
With his back-to-back 3-meter titles, Tyler finishes his collegiate career as a five-time national champion.
After finishing third in the prelims, Tyler was outstanding in Saturday’s platform final.
He scored a 91.80 on a reverse 3 1/2 somersault tuck and, on his final dive, turned in a 90.00 on a back 2 1/2 somersault 2 1/2 twist pike.
His score of 480.65 left Texas A&M’s Jackson Bowshire 29.65 points back in second place.
On 3-meter, Tyler was first in the prelims with a 443.20.
His win in the finals was by just 1.30 points over Indiana University teammate Quentin Henninger.
In the 1-meter prelims, Tyler finished a disappointing 10th, although he rallied to finish first in the consolation finals.
Henninger earned his first NCAA title by finishing first in the 1-meter finals.
Tyler went into the national championships after a solid performance in the Zone C championships in which he finished first on 3-meter, second on 1-meter and third on platform.
In the Big 10 championships, Tyler was second on platform, third on 1-meter and fifth on 3-meter.
Last summer, he became the first U.S. diver since 2000 to qualify for the Olympics on both the springboard and platform.
He finished fourth on springboard in the Paris Olympics and just missed qualifying for the platform semifinals.
Representing Colquitt County High, Tyler is a two-time Georgia high school champion and still holds the state record he set in 2021.
He also is a two-time junior national champion and his accomplishments also include:
• 2019 Junior Pan Am Championships team member, placing sixth on 1-meter, sixth on 3-meter and fifth on platform.
• 2021 Junior Pan American Games team member, earning a bronze medal on 1-meter and placing fourth on platform.
• 2021 Junior Pan American Championship team member, earning the gold medal on 1-meter and synchro 3-meter and silver on 3-meter.
• 2023 Winter Nationals champion on synchronized 10-meter.
• 2024 Canada Cup silver medalist on 10-meter.
• 2024 American Cup bronze medalist on 10-meter.
