Middle school girls first, boys second in conference track

MOULTRIE – Led by several outstanding individual performances, the Colquitt County middle school girls finished first and the boys second in the recent conference track meet.
The Big 9 Conference meet was held March 20 at Thomas County Middle School with teams from Colquitt County, J.L. Newbern, Hahira, Valdosta, Tift County and Coffee middle schools taking part.
The middle school girls team included four first-place finishes, including one on a 72-foot discus throw by Tnya Young, which according to MileSplit USA, ranks No. 1 in the nation among middle school girls in its outdoor rankings.
The girls 4×100 relay team’s first-place time of 51.77 also is ranked No. 1 by MileSplit.
The Colquitt County boys team’s top finishes include a 5-10 high jump by John Parker Harrison, which MileSplit USA ranks No. 1.
Also taking first-place finishes for the Colquitt County middle school girls were Maleah Carr in the 200-meter dash with a 26.76 and Taylor Brown in the long jump with a 16-1.
Carr also finished second in the long jump.
Also bringing home silver medals were Mia Rodriguez in the 400-meter dash and the 4×400-meter relay team.
Maikairi James won bronze medals in the 400-meter dash and the high jump.
Also taking third-place finishes for the Colquitt County girls were Kyndall Pettis in the 100-meter hurdles and Sayge Bennett in the discus.
Bennett’s 71-3 in the discus set a Colquitt County middle school record.
Also competing for the middle school Lady Packers were Brianna Gamble, McKenzie Wright, Kaylee Diaz, Addison Blaxton, Stella Alderman, Annabelle Dell, Hayden Champion, Caitlyn Spradling, Dy’Quavious James, Addison Wiley, Delyzsha Tillman and Damijahe Downs.
Harrison’s outstanding high jump gave the boys team its only gold medal.
Bringing home silver medals were Dareon Rolle, in the 100-meter hurdles; Ty’Vhyr Young, with a school record 118-2 in the discus; and the 4×400-meter relay team.
Taking third-place finishes were Ki’Ahj Madison in the 400-meter dash and Trotter Tomlinson in the 800-meter run.
Lathyn Jones set a school record in the shot put.
Also competing for the Colquitt County boys team were Jaiden Brown, Ricky Davis, Takori Burns, Braiden Terrell, Colt Sullivan, Cameron Williams, Pate Vines, Raven Hooks, Demetric Salaam, Cambric Jones and Tyrell Wright.
