Colquitt girls sweep, honor

MOULTRIE – Before a sweep of visiting Hancock Central on Wednesday at Packer Park, Colquitt County honored the former members of the school’s first slow-pitch softball program.
For the second week in a row, the Lady Packers needed just 2 1/2 innings to win each of its two games in an area doubleheader.
After arriving more than an hour late after a 180-mile trip from Sparta, the Lady Dogs were overmatched by the Lady Packers.
Colquitt won both games by 21-0 scores, batting just twice in each contest.
Hancock Central did not manage a hit.
Playing for the Colquitt County girls were Caroline Eidson, Kamry Paulk, Allie Eure, Anna Lynn Armstrong, Karleigh Heard, Bryleigh Webb, Ryleigh Tillery, Caselynn Allen, Ava Fields and Addison Moore.
It was the second straight doubleheader against a team that Colquitt County easily defeated.
Both games against Macon County last week went 2 1/2 innings with the Lady Packers winning 14-2 and 11-0.
Colquitt scored 15 runs in the first inning of each game on Wednesday.
After opening the first season of the second Colqutit County slow-pitch program by being swept 19-4 and 19-0 by West Laurens, one of the top programs in the state, Colquitt’s girls have won both games their last three doubleheaders over East Laurens, Macon County and Hancock Central and are now 6-2.
The Lady Packers will end the regular season with an area doubleheader on April 9 at Richmond Hill.
Before the doubleheader, a contingent representing the girls who played slow-pitch at Colquitt County from 1984-2000 was honored and introduced on the field.
Dot Causey, mother of former Lady Packer player and assistant coach Angie Causey Davis, threw out the first pitch.
Catching the first pitch was her grandson Ryan Davis, Colquitt County’s assistant coach.
The former players in attendance on Wednesday were Amanda West Horne, Tina Spires, Ashia Wallace, Dana Davis Barrow, Kelli Bozeman, Julie Craft, Julie Autrey, Billie Jo Cooper, Tonya Norman, Britney Wetherington Mobley, P.J. Horne Jones, Roxanne Stone, Monica Chambers, Jodi Beth Hammock Stuckey, Lori Clayton, Mary Sue Weaver Thompson, Jennifer Thomas Van Dyke, Bonnie Brown Kudela, Wendy Whittington, Leslie Whittington Paradice, Lindsay Mims, Terra Miller, Tina Crosby, Joni Chambers, Robi Dalton Jursik and Wendy Horne.
Also in attendance was Keith Croft, who coached the Lady Packers slow-pitch teams for 10 seasons, posting a record of 176-88.
