MOULTRIE – The Colquitt County eighth-grade Black boys and girls soccer teams locked up the two Power 8 Conference championships 25 miles apart on Wednesday.
The Colquitt County eighth-grade boys defeated Pine Grove in the boys championship game in penalty kicks at Packer Park to complete an 11-0 season.
And in Thomasville, the eighth-grade Lady Packers avenged their only loss of the season to defeat Thomas County 2-0 to claim the girls conference title.
Both teams were especially dominant on defense all season and neither allowed a goal in regulation in the two championship matches.
The boys championship game between Colquitt County and Pine Grove at Packer Park was scoreless at the end of regulation.
“We had outstanding play from goalkeeper Wilvin Loaiza-Rios throughout regulation,” Colquitt County eighth-grade boys coach Matthew Burton said.
The Packers took the title by going 6-5 in PKs with Danny Ortiz, Daniel Perez, Hudson Champion, Ivan Pimentel, Brandon Mata and Angel Duque scoring.

The Colquitt County eighth-grade girls had lost just one match this season, falling to Thomas County 3-1 on March 5, in the regular-season finale.
But the Lady Packers got their revenge on Wednesday.
Kayly Garcia got the only goal the team would need, assisted by Josie Crisostomo.
Emily Garcia got the second goal with her twin Kayly assisting.
