Colquitt earns seven golds
at high school track meet

MOULTRIE – The Colquitt County boys track team earned seven gold medals in a nine-team track meet held Wednesday at the high school.
The meet drew teams from Brooks County, Coffee, Colquitt County, Lowndes, Mitchell County, Pelham, Terrell County, Thomas County Central and Valdosta high schools.
Of the first-place finishes, five were turned in by individual performers.
Bryce Toomer won both the discus, with a 158-2, and the shot put, with a 53-7.5.
Alfonso McNeil won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 43.75.
Teammate Ja’Shar Kinsey took first in the high jump with a 6-6.
And Ameri Knighton took first in the triple jump with a 42-1.
Also claiming gold medals were the 4×100-meter and 4×200-meter relay teams of Joshua Alford, Dyi’Quavion James, Ameri Knighton and Jalen Clayton.
The boys team also got second-place finishes from Kinsey in the long jump with a 20-8; Alford in the 100-meter dash with an 11.19; and NiShawn Osby in the triple jump with a 41-5.
The Lady Packers had three second-place finishes.
Taking silver medals were Samiya Fuller in the 100-meter dash with a 13.04; Ta’Meria Williams in the long jump with a 14-11.5; and Aubrey Edge in the discus with a 94-10.
Lady Packers who took third-place finishes were Aziah McNeal in the 100-yard dash with a 13.12; Se’Myiah Lewis in the 800-meter run with a 2:44.76; Kimmora Ponder in the 300-meter hurdles with a 53.77; and the 4×800-meter relay team that included Melissa Breedlove, Monai Alexander, Marley Kelley and Blakelee Lehman.
Winning bronze medals for the Colquitt County boys were Caden Calhoun, in both the discus, with a 109-9, and the shot put, with a 44-2; Dyi’Quavian James in the 100-meter dash with an 11:28; and Timothy Downs in the 300-meter hurdles with a 45.11.
The Lady Packers and Packers will compete next on Saturday, March 22, in the Harmon Invitational at Lowndes High School.
