JV soccer teams get
sweep at Tift County

MOULTRIE – The Colquitt junior varsity soccer teams swept a pair of non-region matches against Tift County on Monday in Tifton.
The teams met in region contests on March 3 at Packer Park.
On Monday, the JV boys blanked Tift for the second time, winning 9-0.
The girls, who lost to Tift earlier 1-0, beat the Lady Devils by the same score on Monday. The JV Lady Packers are now 4-3-1.
The JV Packers are 7-0-1 with only a season-opening tie at Cairo to mar their record.
They will be the top-seed in the region tournament and will receive a bye through to the April 14 semifinals.
The championship game will be played on April 17.
The Packers jumped out to a 3-0 halftime time lead then put the Devils away by scoring six more times in the second half.
Michael Jay Hernandez scored the first of his three goals to put the Packers up 1-0 with 28:19 remaining in the first half.
Romeo Lopez made it 2-0 with a goal off an assist by Carlos Valencia-Garcia with 14:38 left in the half.
Hernandez got his second goal of the first half with 5:01 remaining.
Valencia-Garcia scored the Packers first two goals in the second half, both coming in the first 13 minutes.
Lopez assisted on the first; Angel Gomez-Romulo on the second.
Hernandez got the hat trick with an unassisted goal that put the Packers up 6-0 with 26:57 remaining.
After Romeo Lopez scored his second goal off an assist from Leonardo Lopez, freshman Abdiel Rojo-Guerra scored the last two Colquitt County goals in the final 14:25.
The first was unassisted. Romeo Lopez got the assist on the other.
