get sweep of Valdosta

MOULTRIE – The Colquitt County varsity tennis teams closed out the Region 1-6A portion of their schedules on Tuesday with a sweep of Valdosta High in Valdosta.
After their 5-0 victory, the Lady Packers finish 3-2 in the region and will be either the second or third seed in the region playoffs.
The Colquitt County boys defeated Valdosta 3-2 and finish with a 2-3 region record and are expected to be the No. 4 seed in the tournament.
The girls and boys region playoffs will be held March 24-27 with the No. 6 seed traveling to play the No. 3 seed and the No. 5 seed going to play No. 4.
The teams that advance will play in the region tournament to be held on Tuesday, April 8, at McKey Park in Valdosta.
In the March 7-8 Viking Invitational, the Colquitt County girls defeated Brantley County and lost to Camden County and Bleckley County before traveling to Valdosta.
At No. 1 singles, Julia Costin won 6-3, 3-6, 6-4; Emily Lampman won at No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-2; and Allie Rowley won at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-1.
Ada Craft and Jayley Johnson won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles to send their region record to 4-1.
Freshman Lauren Nelms made her varsity debut when she teamed with Jaelyn Wiers to take a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles.
In an extra girls doubles match, Denim Dalton and Bailee Howell won 8-1.
The Lady Packers are 6-5 overall.
In the Colquitt County boys win over Valdosta, Joshua Scroggins won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles.
Jack Taunton fell 2-6, 1-6 at No. 2 singles and Bailee Fountain lost 6-7(4-7), 3-6 at No. 3.
Ty Hurst and Harrison Lampman played a strong match at No. 1 doubles and won 6-2, 6-2.
At No. 2 doubles, Banks Flowers and Parker Anderson won quickly 6-0, 6-2.
In extra matches, Lendon Wiggins played singles and won 6-0, 6-2; and Landon Hembree and Jack Kirksey won at doubles 8-3.
The Packers won two of their three matches in the Viking Invitation, with their lone loss coming at the hands of tournament champion Brantley County.
They are 7-4 so far this season.
Both the Packers and Lady Packers will meet Frederica Academy, Glynn Academy and Jeff Davis in the Gold Isle Invitational on March 14-15 in Brunswick.
In middle school matches, the Colquitt County girls won 5-0 and the middle school boys won 4-1.
