MOULTRIE – The Moultrie-Colquitt County Chamber of Commerce held its 115th Annual Chamber of Commerce Meeting and Awards Presentation Thursday at Maule Hangar on Spence Field.
During the event eight awards were presented to members of the community and a silent auction was also held during the evening.
After the event, Chamber President Caitlyn Hatcher said, “It was an honor to welcome everyone to the 115th Annual Chamber Banquet. Seeing such an incredible turnout was both exciting and humbling — so much so that we had to move to a larger venue just to accommodate the crowd! What a fantastic challenge to face, and one that reflects the remarkable growth and momentum we’ve built together.”
She also said that she wanted to emphasize the importance of the banquet, which was a chance for the Chamber to honor all of its members. She said that, as Chamber members, they were a part of a legacy of growth and community impact.
As the Chamber steps into 2025, Hatcher said, she and her staff are filled with excitement for the future. This year promises new programs and initiatives designed to create even more opportunities for collaboration, growth, and success, she said.
“While we’ve only scratched the surface of what each recipient has done, the impact you all have made cannot be overstated. If we could speak a thousand words, it still wouldn’t capture the depth of gratitude and admiration we feel for each of you. Your passion and commitment have left a lasting mark on this community, and for that, we are truly grateful,” Hatcher said.
A list of award winners follows, along with comments from the Chamber speeches that introduced them:
Ambassador of the Year
Robin Redding with Edward Jones embodies the qualities of an ambassador because she has been a constant advocate and volunteer for the Chamber. She volunteers for every event, donates items when needed and generally lends a hand wherever it’s needed. She always asks for the little details, “who the business owner is” and “what their address is,” just so she can send a thoughtful card in the mail. She effortlessly does the small things that can make a difference. No matter how packed her schedule is, she always finds time to give back to the community.
Agri-Business of the Year
James and John Paul Sutton with Sutton System Sales, Inc. have carried forward the vision established by their father through expanding and modernizing their business. Their efforts ensure that farmers and agribusinesses have access to high-quality fuel, lubricants and essential agricultural products. This year marks 75 years in business for the company. Each of the men have also contributed to the community-at-large through public service, through advocating for the community’s infrastructure, through advocating for youth programs and through serving their church.
Man of the Year
Ross Dekle has set a standard for excellence whether through his tireless work in the community, his generosity or his unwavering support of local initiatives. Over the years, he has served on multiple boards, taken on leadership roles and played an integral part in bringing new business opportunities to Moultrie. He also has a heart for service, which is seen through his mentoring of young professionals, volunteering his time as a soccer coach and supporting the CCHS choral program. His legacy is not only in the work he’s done but in the lives he’s touched.
Woman of the Year
Connie Southwell goes beyond the 9 to 5 to give of her time, energy and heart to make the community stronger, brighter and better. Whether she’s on the football field Friday night, at a church baptism on Sunday morning, on the golf course on Monday or at any other sporting event in between, she is always there, capturing cherished moments. If someone needs help, she answers the call. If a project needs leadership, she takes the reins. If there’s an opportunity to make a difference, she seizes it. She does all of these things never asking for recognition but just because it’s who she is.
Colquitt County Rockstar – Small Business of the Year
Whitney Smith with State Farm is more than just a business owner, she’s a community advocate and a leader with a heart for service. She invests in both the public and private schools in Colquitt County. She understands the importance of preserving downtown’s history and ensuring that it continues to thrive. She does this by creating meaningful experiences like hosting events at her office, surprising local businesses with goodies and making sure that people know they are valued. Her passion, generosity and innovative spirit have made her a driving force in the community.
Committed to Colquitt County
Dalton’s is not only a cornerstone of the local economy but an example of dedication and service to the community. With a legacy that goes back decades, the restaurant has been passed down from generation to generation and has weathered challenges along the way. Kelly Dalton, reviving the family business in 2021, offers a new vision for the restaurant, which includes an event center in Downtown Moultrie. It has become a hub for civic organization luncheons and community events. Kelly and the Dalton family continue the hard work and dedication started generations ago.
Heart of Colquitt County
Serenity House Colquitt County was born out of a tragedy in the community that inspired Dr. D.W. Adcock to spearhead a committee to establish it. In 2024, the domestic violence shelter answered 529 crisis calls, helping nearly 500 women and children escape dangerous situations. It has also provided 4,600 shelter bed nights to ensure their safety and served 13,800 meals to those in its care. The organization’s staff is dedicated to saving lives, restoring hope and breaking the cycle of abuse, which helps build a safer, stronger community for everyone.
Partners in Progress
The Moultrie-Colquitt County Parks and Recreation Authority has roots that date back to the 1950s, making it a pillar of the community for decades. It goes above and beyond not only through its dedicated services but by volunteering across the community and investing in both people and programs. The staff remains committed to offering high-quality programs for all ages, fostering collaboration, and supporting both economic and community development. No matter the challenge, the organization continues to adapt, grow, and meet the needs of Moultrie and Colquitt County residents.
