Eighth-grade soccer teams
to open playoffs at home

MOULTRIE – Colquitt County’s eighth-grade boys Black regular-season conference champions will open the postseason tournament on their home pitch.
And Colquitt’s girls team, the No. 2 seed, also will start the postseason at Packer Park.
The 8-0 Packers will meet Lowndes at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday in their tournament opener.
The Colquitt County boys defeated the Vikings 8-0 on the road last month.
Coach Matthew Burton’s Packers are heading into the tournament coming off a 2-0 victory over Thomas County on Wednesday.
Daniel Perez got the Packers first goal on a free kick with 17:27 left in the first half.
Hudson Champion got the Packers other goal 11:43 left in the half.
The eighth-grade Lady Packers dropped their final regular-season game of the season 3-1 to Thomas County and finished 7-1 and in second place in the conference standings.
The Lady Packers will play host to Tift County at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Colquitt’s girls edged the Lady Devils 2-0 on Feb. 26, in Tifton.
With first-round victories, both Colquitt County teams would be at home to face a second-round opponents.
The Colquitt County junior varsity boys remain unbeaten after defeating Lee County 3-0 on Thursday at Packer Park.
A Carlos Valencia-Garcia goal gave the Packers a 1-0 halftime lead.
Jesus Portillo and Aiden Nunez scored in the second half.
The Packers were coming off a 7-0 win over Tift County on March 3.
Portillo and Valencia-Garcia scored first-half goals.
The two combined to score the first two goals of the second half before Michael Jay Hernandez closed out the victory by scoring the last three goals in the final 11:17.
The junior varsity boys are now 5-0-1.
The junior varsity Lady Packers fell to the Lady Trojans 2-0 and are now 2-3-1.
